A case of rabies has been reported by the Richmond County Health
Department. A raccoon, which came in contact with two dogs on Pineland Drive in Hamlet, was sent to the NC State Laboratory of Public Health on Thursday, September 24, 2015 for testing. The State Lab has confirmed that the raccoon tested positive for rabies. The dogs were up-to-date on their rabies vaccine.
Dr. Tommy Jarrell, Health Director, is urging anyone with a dog or cat over the age of four months to ensure their animal(s) is (are) up-to-date with their rabies vaccine as required by North Carolina Law. Citizens residing on or near Pineland Drive in Hamlet are especially encouraged to carefully watch for animals whose behavior is abnormal, remind children to refrain from coming into direct contact with other animals and contact the Hamlet Police Department at 582-2551 for any animals acting abnormal.
