NOTICE TO RICHMOND COUNTY WATER CUSTOMERS
Richmond County water customers will receive a letter between January 9th and January 14th related to water test results from Anson County, NC that did not meet NC Dept. of Water Quality standards for the month of November 2018.
Why are we receiving a letter?
During the month of November 2018, Anson County water quality test results exceeded the maximum standards for the measuring of turbidity. Turbidity is a measure of cloudiness in drinking water and has no known health effects. A water producer cannot exceed the required limit on more than 5 % of the tests taken in a month without having to notify customers that these limits have been exceeded.
Why does this affect Richmond County customers?
Richmond County purchases water from Anson County sporadically during each month of the year. In November 2018, Richmond County provided @ 112,000,000 gallons of potable water to its customers and @ 22,000,000 came from Anson County. This constitutes approximately 20% of the total water usage.
In what capacity was Richmond County affected?
We experienced no known effects to our drinking water. The water we receive from Anson County is blended with water from the Richmond County Water Treatment Plant thereby assisting in the dilution of the elevated turbidity levels. Richmond County obtains water samples from numerous locations throughout its system as required by state statute and at NO TIME did any of our results test positive for disease-causing organisms in the drinking water.
What do Richmond County customers need to do??
There is NO NEED to boil water. Turbidity has no known health effects. Since we obtained water from Anson County during the timeframe the turbidity levels were elevated, customer notification is mandatory.
