Proposed Tower Ordinance for Public Hearing

The County Commissioners continue to consider a new Tower Ordinance for Richmond County.  After the public hearing convened during the March 1st, 2010 meeting of the Board of Commissioners, amendments to the proposal were added to the working draft.  This new draft will be on the agenda for the April 12th, 2010 meeting of the Board.  This meeting begins at 6:30 pm in the Commissioner's Chamber located in the County Administration Building.  The address is 125 S. Hancock St.

Information for Special Emphasis

1.   All existing towers are grandfathered in.
2.   Only new towers that will be over 50 feet high are required to go through the process or pay any fees.
3.   Only time there is a fee or review process is if for an increase in the height or put up a new tower (over 50’high).
4.   Only trying to protect property values of adjoining property owners.
5.   No review or fee to maintain existing structure including adding antennas or changing light bulbs.
6.   Fee for new HAM tower (over 90’ high) is $150.00. This is the standard Conditional Use Application Fee.
7.   Commissioners are only trying to protect property owners from negative impacts on the following
         a. Health
         b. Safety
         c. Aesthetics
